Differences between Linux and Windows 1. Multi-user computers have the ability to be accessed by more than one user at a time. The server on the network must be multi-user because the server on the network needs to be able to receive multiple users at the same time. 2.GUI (Graphical user interface) The GUI of Linux adopts X Windows and is independent of the kernel; In Windows, the GUI is integrated with the kernel. 3. Differences between Linux and Windows Like Linux, the Windows family is a fully multitasking operating system. They support the same user interface, network, and security. But the real difference between Linux and Windows is that Linux is actually a version of Unix, and the contributions from Unix have been enormous. What makes Unix so important? Not only is Unix the most popular operating system for multi-user machines, but it is the foundation of free software. A large amount of free software on the Internet is written for Unix systems. Because there are so many Unix vendors, Unix has many implementations. There is no single organization responsible for Unix distribution. There is now a strong push to standardize the Unix community as an open system. The Windows family, on the other hand, is a proprietary system, designed and controlled by the company that developed the operating system. In this sense the company is highly profitable because it sets strict standards for programming a

Different features :Windows system intuitive and efficient object-oriented graphical user interface, easy to learn and use, Windows user interface and development environment are object-oriented, this mode of operation simulation of the real world behavior, easy to understand, learn and use; Linux has strong applicability, and the Linux system of a microcomputer can also be ported to run on a large computer. ; Software acquisition approaches are different: Each specific function of the Windows system may require commercial software support, requiring the purchase of appropriate licenses; Most of the Linux software is freely available, with fewer options for the same functionality. ; Source code publication is different: Linux system source code is completely open; Windows sets aside only the necessary interfaces. ; Compatibility is different :Windows system compatibility software is more; Linux systems are less compatible. ; Different stability :Linux host running for more than a year is not blue screen, do not shut down is very common; Windows, on the other hand, sometimes has an inexplicable blue screen. ; Requirements are different: Windows system is relatively simple to use, easy to get started. Graphical interfaces are useful for users with no computer background; The Linux graphical interface is simple to use and easy to get started. Text interface, need to learn to master. ; The learning difficulty is different: The Windows system has complex structure, frequent changes, and fast elimination of knowledge and skills, so it is difficult to study deeply. Linux system structure is simple, stable, and knowledge, skills inheritance is good, in-depth study is relatively easy.

Linux is a family of open-source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17 1991, by Linux Torvalds. Linux was originally developed for personal computers based on the Intel x86 architecture, but has since been ported to more platform than any other operating system. However, Linux is used by only around 2.3% percent of desktop computers. The positive side of Linux is that it consumes very little resource and space unlike Windows. So you can virtually run a system on 500Mb of drive and 300Mb of ram which is pretty impressive. It can also be run with windows or inside windows if you don’t want to jump ships completely. However, the negative side of Linux its that drivers don’t really exist, there will be work around but users of Linux have reported problems when trying to use certain hardwares or old hardwares. Linux is also not as user friendly as Windows as “straight out of the box”. Windows 7 is an operating system that was produced by Microsoft and released as part of the Windows NT family of operating systems, it is the successor of Windows XP and Windows Vista. It was released to manufacturing on July 22, 2009, and became generally available on October 22 of the same year, and is the operating system for use on personal computers, including home and business desktops, laptops, tablet PCs and media center PCs. It is the successor to Windows Vista. The positive side of Windows 7 is that it is still one of the most popular system used by windows user especially in China as a result most of the programme could still run on Windows 7. Windows 7 is also better that Windows XP and Windows Vista as it was coded to support almost every pieces of software that runs on Windows system. However, nothing is perfect, the negative side of Windows 7 is that it required a clear installation. If you want to use Windows 7, you have to back up all your application and files, wipe your hard drive and perform a clean install of Windows 7. After installation, you must manually reinstall your software and repurpose your file library. Windows 10 is a series of operating systems developed by Microsoft and released as part of its Windows NT family of operating systems. It is the successor to Windows 8.1. One of Windows 10's most notable features is its support for universal apps, an expansion of the Metro-style first introduced in Windows 8. At the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference in 2011, Andrew Lees, the chief of Microsoft's mobile technologies, said that the company intended to have a single software ecosystem for PCs, phones, tablets, and other devices: "We won't have an ecosystem for PCs, and one for phones, and one for tablets‍—‌they'll all come together." The positive side of Windows 10 is that it has all the positive side of the previous Windows system and gather them together to become a established system on PC. It also has a special version in China and will help the Chinese user to solve their issue fast. However, in Windows 10, Microsoft removed Windows Media Center which was uninstalled during the update of Windows 10. If you want to install it back you would have to pay money. The most negative side is that users is unable to control what Windows 10 will update, this will cause the system to have some issue as not all the update version is established. In conclusion, as a student and a gamer, I prefer Windows 10 the most as it support DirectX 12 which is used by modern gaming industry. Windows 10 is taking over the most popular Windows system unlike Linux which is unpopular among desktop computers. Also, unlike windows 7 which the maintenance ends in 2015, Windows 10 will have maintenance and security ensure as Microsoft will not publish any new system so far. This will ensure our data is protected and we will have a safer online environment.
